There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg, Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America's economy Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Perh aps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.

Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7, 800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA..! ZILCH...

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer). We can expect to get an average of

$1,000 per month

After retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to:

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen.. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us

Then sit back.....

And see how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

With no disrespect intended to the Jackson family, this sure does reveal the shallowness of our value system in this country.

This puts things into perspective:
While the focus today, tomorrow and for the next God-knows-how- many-days will be the death of a pop culture icon; while many will mourn, wail and quite literally make fools of themselves over it and while as many will speak endlessly about it, allow me, if only for a moment, to remind us all that others have died this month; others whose lives were cut short; others who leave behind loved ones and whose families will dearly miss them; families who'll suffer with much more dignity and honor than we'll be exposed to on the tube in the coming days.
Yes... it's true... we've suffered a great loss... but forgive me while I tell you that I'm not talking about the king of pop music.

LETTER FROM THE BOSS.....

As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that
Barack Obama is our President, and that our taxes, and government fees
will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, our prices
would have to increase by about 10%. Since we cannot increase our prices right
now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off six of
our employees instead. This has really been bothering me, since I believe we
are family here and I didn't know how to choose who would have to go.

So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found six
Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will
be the ones to let go. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this
problem. They voted for change; I gave it to them.

I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic.

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White
House. One is from Chicago , another is from Tennessee , and
the third is from Minnesota .

All three go with a White House official to examine the
fence. The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and
does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I figure the job will run
about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100
profit for me."

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and
figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300
for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for
me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but
leans over to the White House official and whispers,
"$2,700."

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even
measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a
high figure?"

The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me,
$1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the
fence."

"Done!" replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan will
work.

I have no idea if the figures are correct (actually don't care about the
math) but I have to say I like the spirit of this.

The Proposal:

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to
happen is they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers need
to find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be
eliminated as well. Wall street, and the media normally congratulate the
CEO for making this type of "tough decision", and his board of directors
gives him a big bonus.

I feel our government should not be immune from similar risks. I would love
to see the following cuts to be implemented by the current administration!
(TALK ABOUT CHANGE!)

Reduce the House of Representatives from the current
435 members to
218 members and Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State). Also reduce
remaining staff by 25%. Accomplish this over

the next 8 years. (two steps / two elections) and of course this would
require some redistricting.

Some yearly monetary gains include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X
$165,200 pay / member / yr.)

$97,175,000 for elimination of the above people's staff.
(estimate $1.3 Mil in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Mil in
staff per each member of the Senate every year)

$240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those members
whose jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government pork earmarks
are at $15 Billion / yr)

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and would need to
improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work
together for the good of our country?

We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient
resolution of issues as well.

It could even be easier, if done correctly, to keep track of what the
representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in
1911 when the current number of representatives was established.
(telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few)

Note: Congress did not hesitate to jump on a train for home this week when
it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic
problems. Also, we have 3 senators that have not been doing their jobs for
the past 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all have been
accepting full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators &
representatives .

Summary of opportunity:

$44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress
members.

$8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings.

Big business does these types of cuts all the time.

If Congresspersons were required to serve 20 years (like everyone else) in
order to collect retirement benefits , there is no telling how much we
would save.

Many believed this day would never come

In a few short days, an African American man will move from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us but the mere fact that this man will be residing in this house should make us all stop and count our blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible.

Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of its forms and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets.

Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem will take place when this man takes up residency in this house.

This man, moving into this house at this time in our nation's history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to "judge a man, not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character".

There can be little doubt now that the vast majority of us truly believe that this man has earned both his place in history and his new address. His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly.

But I for one will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank the lord above that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters and where truly anything is possible.

As the CFO of this business that employees 140 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that with Barack Obama as our next President, our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way. The Muslim religion in the fastest growing religion per
capita in the United States , especially in the minority
races!!!

Last month I attended my annual training session
that's required for maintaining my state prison
security clearan ce. During the training session there was
a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman
Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each
of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam
had to say. The Man gave a great presentation of the basics

Barrack Obama discovers a leak under his sink, so he calls Joe the Plumber to come and fix it. Joe drives to Obama’s house, which is located in a very nice neighborhood where it’s obvious that all the residents make well over $250,000 per year. Joe arrives and takes his tools into the house. Joe is led to the room that contains the leaky pipe under a sink. Joe assesses the problem and tells Obama, who is standing near the door, that it’s an easy repair that will take less than 10 minutes.

Obama asks Joe how much it will cost. Joe immediately says, “$9,500.”

“$9,500?” Obama asks, stunned. “But you said it’s an easy repair!”

“Yes, but what I do is charge a lot more to my clients who make more than $250,000 per year so I can fix the plumbing of everybody who makes less than that for free,” explains Joe. “It’s always been my philosophy. As a matter of fact, I lobbied government to pass this philosophy as law, and it did pass earlier this year, so now all plumbers have to do business this way. It’s known as ‘Joe’s Fair Plumbing Act of 2008.’ Surprised you haven’t heard of it, senator.”

In spite of that, Obama tells Joe there’s no way he’s paying that much for a small plumbing repair, so Joe leaves. Obama spends the next hour flipping through the phone book looking for another plumber, but he finds that all other plumbing businesses listed have gone out of business. Not wanting to pay Joe’s price, Obama does nothing. The
leak under Obama’s sink goes without repair for the next several days. A week later the leak is so bad that Obama has had to put a bucket under the sink. The bucket fills up quickly and has to be emptied every hour, and there’s a risk that the room will flood, so Obama calls Joe and pleads with him to return. Joe goes back to Obama’s house, looks at the leaky pipe, and says “Let’s see – this will cost you about $21,000.”

“A few days ago you told me it would cost $9,500!” Obama quickly fires back.

Joe explains the reason for the dramatic increase. “Well, because of the ‘Joe’s Fair Plumbing Act,’ a lot of rich people are learning how to fix their own plumbing, so there are

I’m hurting now too – all thanks to greedy rich people like you who won’t pay their fair share.”

I still dont get how companies get away with charging huge interest rates, and late fees to consumers? Think about it credit card companies and banks charge you interest on money you owe them, and when you dont pay ontime they charge you a ridiculous late fee!!! Even utility companies will charge you penalties and fees if they dont get their money on time,by an exact date!

Why is it then that when we overpay as a consumer we cant charge the companies interest and late fees on the money they owe us?????? I have had to wait months to get money back from credit card companies that I over paid , one time it was only 9 dollars and it took me months to get my money back!

Why is it these companies can take their sweet ol time paying us when they are the ones who owe us and we cant get interest on are own money? Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae's accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, " Raines, who long defended the company's accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that "mistakes were made" and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company's books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years." Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.

Raines left with a "golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. Tim Howard - Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard "was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a "stable pattern of earnings" at Fannie. In everyday English - he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, "Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,"

On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.

So when they pulled in in their bus the sign did catch their, McCain and Palin and the rest of their family, it caught their eye, we could tell, they gave us a thumbs-up from the bus, so we were all excited just by that --

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait. Who gave you the thumbs up, McCain and Palin?

CALLER: McCain, Palin, Cindy McCain, we could see them from the bus. We were in a position where we had eye contact with them --

CALLER: My wife was holding our daughter.

RUSH: Very, very, very cool.

CALLER: It was really cool, Rush. I was like, 'Wow, that's awesome,' because I love Governor Palin and so I thought that's really neat. So then we moved around as the bus was getting ready to pull out, we kind of positioned ourselves so we could just wave them on and a Secret Service agent came up to us and said, 'Hey, can you come with us?' I was like, 'Do we have a choice?'

RUSH: (laughing) You shouldn't have worried. It's not the Clinton administration.

CALLER: Right. So we accompanied them up the hill, we went right to the bus, where it was, and Governor Palin, Senator McCain, Cindy, Todd Palin, they're all standing there. We're in this inner circle with just us and them, and the Secret Service agent, and they came right up to us and thanked us for coming out, said they loved our sign, and Governor Palin immediately said, 'May I hold your daughter?' and our daughter Chloe, who's five, went right to her, and I have some pictures I'd love to send you maybe when I'm done here, but Governor Palin was hugging Chloe, and then her little daughter brought their baby Trig who has Down syndrome from the bus, he was napping, and Chloe went right over and kissed him on the cheek, and my son Nolan who's nine, he thanked her.

RUSH: This is amazing.

CALLER: I will send you all the stuff, Senator McCain was talking to my son, and we thanked him for his service, and he asked my son if he wanted to see the bus, and we were hanging out and it was very surreal. I felt like we could have had a pizza and a beer with them, they were so warm.

RUSH: You know what? I want to put you on hold. I want Snerdley to give you our super-secret, known-only-to-three-people here, e-mail address.

CALLER: I will send you everything, Rush.

RUSH: And then could you send us these pictures? Would you mind if we put them on the website?

CALLER: I would be honored, and my main thing is they are warm, kind, genuine people, and they represent the best of this country.

RUSH: That's right. And when you send these pictures, make sure you identify them. I mean, we'll know Palin and McCain, of course. Identify yourselves.

CALLER: I will, I will identify everybody in the picture, Rush, and God bless you for being a beacon of hope and truth in this country.

The State of Our Tax System:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too.

It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies

'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when
well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly
awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility,
his son, Reason. He is survived by his four stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

"What Caused the Loan Crisis"

Dear Friends,

I am sounding an alarm! For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this is not being discussed on the media or why conservatives are not making their case: IT IS SO IMPORTANT!!!!! The following is a condensation of a series from the Investor's Business Daily explaining "What Caused the Loan Crisis":

1977: Pres. Jimmy Carter signs the Community Reinvestment Act into Law. The law pressured financial institutions to extend home loans to those who would otherwise not qualify. The Premise: Home ownership would improve poor and crime-ridden communities and neighborhoods in terms of crime, investment, jobs, etc.

Results: Statistics bear out that it did not help.

How did the government get so deeply involved in the housing market? Answer: Bill Clinton wanted it that way.

1992: Republican representative Jim Leach (IO) warned of the danger that Fannie and Freddie were changing from being agencies of the public at large to money machines for the principals and the stockholding few.

1993: Clinton extensively rewrote Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's rules turning the quasi-private mortgage-funding firms into semi-nationalized monopoies dispensing cash and loans to large Democratic voting blocks and handing favors, jobs and contributions to political allies. This potent mix led inevitably to corruption and now the collapse of Freddie and Fannie.

1994: Despite warnings, Clinton unveiled his National Home-Ownership Strategy which broadened the CRA in ways congress never intended.

1995: Congress, about to change from a Democrat majority to Republican, Clinton orders Robert Rubin's Treasury Dept to rewrite the rules. Robt. Rubin's Treasury reworked rules, forcing banks to satisfy quotas for sub-prime and minority loans to get a satisfactory CRA rating. The rating was key to expansion or mergers for banks. Loans began to be made on the basis of race and little else.

1997 - 1999: Clinton, bypassing Republicans, enlisted Andrew Cuomo, then Secretary of Housing and Urban Developement, allowing Freddie and Fannie to get into the sub-prime market in a BIG way. Led by Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd, congress doubled down on the risk by easing capital limits and allowing them to hold just 2.5% of capital to back their investments vs. 10% for banks. Since they could borrow at lower rates than banks their enterprises boomed.

With incentives in place, banks poured billions in loans into poor communities, often "no doc", "no income", requiring no money down and no verification of income. Worse still was the cronyism: Fannie and Freddie became home to out-of work-politicians, mostly Clinton Democrats. 384 politicians got big campaign donations from Fannie and Freddie. Over $200 million had been spent on lobbying and political activities. During the 1990's Fannie and Freddie enjoyed a subsidy of as musch as $182 Billion, most of it going to principals and shareholders, not poor borrowers as claimed.

Did it work? Minorities made up 49% of the 12.5 million new homeowners but many of those loans have gone bad and the minority homeownership rates are shrinking fast.

1999: New Treasury Secretary, Lawrence Summers, became alarmed at Fannie and Freddie's excesses. Congress held hearings the ensuing year but nothing was done because Fannie and Freddie had donated millions to key congressmen and radical groups, ensuring no meaningful changes would take place. "We manage our political risk with the same intensity that we manage our credit and interest rate risks," Fannie CEO Franklin Raines, a former Clinton official and current Barack Obama advisor, bragged to investors in 1999.

2000: Secretary Summers sent Undersecretary Gary Gensler to Congress seeking an end to the "special status". Democrats raised a ruckus as did Fannie and Freddie, headed by politically connected CEO's who knew how to reward and punish. "We think that the statements evidence a contempt for the nation's housing and mortgage markets" Freddie spokesperson Sharon McHale said. It was the last chance during the Clinton era for reform.

2001: Republicans try repeatedly to bring fiscal sanity to Fannie and Freddie but Democrats blocked any attempt at reform; especially Rep. Barney Frank and Sen.Chris Dodd who now run key banking committees and were huge beneficiaries of campaign contributions from the mortgage giants.

2003: Bush proposes what the NY Times called "the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago". Even after discovering a scheme by Fannie and Freddie to overstate earnings by $10.6 billion to boost their bonuses, the Democrats killed reform.

2005: Then Fed chairman Alan Greenspan warns Congress: "We are placing the total financial system at substantial risk". Sen. McCain, with two others, sponsored a Fannie/Freddie reform bill and said, "If congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole". Sen. Harry Reid accused the GOP ;of trying to "cripple the ability of Fannie and Freddie to carry out their mission of expanding homeownership" The bill went nowhere.

2007: By now Fannie and Freddie own or guarantee over HALF of the $12 trillion US mortgage market. The mortgage giants, whose executive suites were top-heavy with former Democratic officials, had been working with Wall St. to repackage the bad loans and sell them to investors. As the housing market fell in '07, subprime mortgage portfolios suffered major losses. The crisis was on, though it was 15 years in the making.

2008: McCain has repeatedly called for reforming the behemoths, Bush urged reform 17 times. Still the media have repeated Democrats' talking points about this being a "Republican" disaster. A few Republicans are complicit but Fannie and Freddie were created by Democrats, regulated by Democrats, largely run by Democrats and protected by Democrats. That's why taxpayers are now being asked for $700 billion!!

Congress wants to crack down on CEO mega-salaries for banks participating in the bailout. And while the politicians argue how best to do that, Alan Fishman of Washington Mutual is headed for the doors with $19 million in his pocket.

If that wasn't outrageous enough, consider this: Fishman started the job three weeks ago. I never saw the employment ad Fishman answered, but it must have read something like this:
WANTED: Top executive for train-wreck bank about to be seized by federal regulators. Must be able to look busy while FDIC sells business from under you. Previous experience with angry shareholders sitting on worthless stock a plus. Perks: $7.5 million hiring bonus and $11.6 million cash severance.

Fishman got the best temp gig in history. He gets to keep the bonus and severance pay, though he must stay on the job while JPMorgan Chase completes its purchase of WaMu's banking assets.

To be fair, Fishman wasn't the one that took WaMu down a path lined with toxic mortgages and other bad assets. No, that role belonged to former CEO Kerry Killinger, who received $54 million over five years before leaving earlier this month. He's eligible for around $20 million in severance pay.

Other execs are also cashing in big. President Stephen Rotella gets $12.7 million in cash if he's terminated or quits with "good reason," according to the Portland Business Journal. And CFO Thomas Casey would get a cash severance of $6.3 million.

And WaMu shareholders got huge payments of...oh, wait. The stock is worthless. Shareholders got wiped out.

(1) 'Press 1 for English' is immediately banned. English is the official language; speak it or wait at the border until you can.

(2) We will immediately go into a two year isolationist posture to straighten out the country's attitude. NO imports, no exports.

We will use the 'Wal-M art 's policy, 'If we ain't got it, you don't need it.'

(3) When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it.

(4) All retired military personnel will be required to man one of our many observation towers on the southern border. (six month tour) They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

(5) Social security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn't put nuttin in, you ain't gettin nuttin out. The president nor any other politician will not be able to touch it.
(6) Welfare - Checks will be handed out on Fridays at the end of the 40 hour school week and the successful completion of urinalysis and a passing grade.

(8) Crime - We will adopt the Turkish method, the first time you steal, you lose your right hand. There is no more life sentences. If convicted, you will be put to death by the same method you chose for your victim; gun, knife, strangulation, etc.

(9) One export will be allowed; Wheat, The world needs to eat. A bushel of wheat will be the exact price of a barrel of oil.

(10) All foreign aid using American taxpayer money will immediately cease, and the saved money will pay off the national debt and ultimately lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, we'll ask the American people if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision whether it's a worthy cause.

(11) The Pledge of Allegiance will be said every day at school and every day in Congress.

(12) The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc.

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 40 months and atotal of 3,567 deaths.

That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers. The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. Is80.6 per 100,000 persons for the same period.

That means that you are about25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in Iraq .Obvious Conclusion:

If you take someone elses life, your life should be over, period! The person you killed is gone, dead, the lives of everyone around that person are now shattered, you took away someones friend, father, mother, son, daughter and so on. There should be no sitting around on death row for thirty years filing appeal after appeal.

We have enough murderers in this country now, once someone has killed someone do you really think they're not capable of murdering again? We live in a retarded nation where people actually think that the death penalty is "cruel and unusual punishment". How do we let murderers live that take children and light them on fire with gasoline and watch them burn, or sodomize and rape them first? How do we let mass murders live that first torture their victims and then cut them up into pieces or smash their heads in with a rock just to see their brains spill out? Is this compassion, if it is, who is it compassion for?

We let these people live, why? Not only do we let them live on death row for 20 years, we pay for them too, yeah its free for them! Some murderers we acutually let go free into society so they can cut someones throat again! The average sentence for someone convicted of murder is twenty years. The average time spent in jail for a convicted murderer before being released is around 8.5 years. These numbers mean that most murderers do receive parole and go back into society.
I dont get it someone takes another life and they're let free in 8.5 years, they torture and kill someone and 8.5 years is good enough?

No wonder their are so many murders in this country, they know they can get away with it and they will be free, there is no consequences! I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if criminals knew that if they took a life, their life was over, they would be put to death immediately, murder rates in this country would plummet! I have met a few people in my life time that have taken another life that are walking around free, I think this is ludicris! Who wants to live in fear?

Violent crimes and murders in this country need real punishments, the criminals need to fear real consequences for their actions, not a slap on the wrist! In many communities throughout the U.S., the police investigate and arrest persons involved in prostitution. A careful examination of this practice shows that it reduces the quality of life in society.
Legalization improves neighborhoods and promotes safety
By forcing prostitution out of places where it would more naturally be found, such as in brothels or near motels, the police drive that activity into the streets of neighborhoods where it otherwise would not exist. As a result, residents of the neighborhoods are exposed to the activity against their will.
Also because of prostitution being forced into the streets, the dangers to many prostitutes greatly increase. Prostitutes whose jobs involve working at night and getting into cars with strangers can be, and often have been, easy pickings for serial killers and other sociopaths. James Alan Fox, a criminal justice professor at Northeastern University, says prostitutes are the most frequent targets for serial killers.
A sensible solution to these problems would be to follow the example of some European cities, where prostitution is allowed in certain designated areas. People who are interested in the activity go to places where it's permitted, and they leave alone the neighborhoods that don't wish to be associated with it. And the prostitutes can work in environments where they are much safer.
Legalization reduces crime
Another problem with prostitution arrests is that they cause long-term increases in crime and drug abuse in society. Margo St. James, a former social worker and a leading advocate of legalizing prostitution, writes: "When a woman is charged for a sex crime, it's a stigma that lasts her lifetime, and it makes her unemployable."
St. James identifies this stigma as a major reason why a large percentage of women who are in jail were first arrested for prostitution. The arrest record forecloses normal employment possibilities, keeps the women working as prostitutes longer than they otherwise would, and sets them up for a lifetime of involvement with drugs and serious crime.
Keeping prostitution illegal also contributes to crime because many criminals view prostitutes and their customers as attractive targets for robbery, fraud, rape, or other criminal acts. The criminals realize that such people are unlikely to report the crimes to police, because the victims would have to admit they were involved in the illegal activity of prostitution when the attacks took place.
If prostitution were legal, these victims would be less reluctant to report to police any criminal acts that occurred while they were involved in it. This would significantly improve the probability of catching the criminals and preventing them from victimizing others. In many cases, it could deter them from committing the crimes in the first place.
That view is consistent with the experience of the European countries where prostitution is legal. They have far lower crime rates than the U.S.
A similar situation applies in the Nevada counties where prostitution is legal. According to Barb Brents and Kate Hausbeck, two professors of sociology at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas who have extensively studied the Nevada brothel industry, those counties are quite peaceable and have very low crime rates.
No wonder that in November 2004 in Churchill County, Nevada, a ballot proposal to outlaw prostitution was rejected by a 2-to-1 margin. Although the county is mostly Republican and supported George W. Bush for president, the same voters saw no reason to stop brothels from operating there.
Legalization promotes liberty and privacy
Laws against prostitution violate Americans' fundamental rights of individual liberty and personal privacy. Thomas Jefferson and other founders of the U.S. envisioned a society where people can live without interference from government, provided they don't harm others.
As Jefferson said in his First Inaugural Address: "A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement." Or as Arthur Hoppe wrote about consensual acts in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1992: "The function of government is to protect me from others. It's up to me, thank you, to protect me from me."
Similar to issues such as birth control, abortion, and the right to death with dignity, this issue involves people's fundamental rights to control their own bodies and decide the best way to conduct their lives. Alan Soble noted, "The freedom to choose one's reasons for engaging in sex is an important part of sexual freedom."
In a free society, it makes no sense for the government to be telling persons - particularly the poor - they cannot charge a fee for harmless services they otherwise are at liberty to give away. To paraphrase George Carlin: Selling is legal, and sex is legal, so why isn't selling sex legal?
Legalization benefits sex workers and their clientsMany people work in the sex industry because they see it as their only means of alleviating serious financial problems. Other sex workers aren't poor but simply enjoy that type of work and receive both income and personal satisfaction from it.
As one sex worker wrote in an article for a national newspaper: "All in all prostitution has been good to me and I have been good to it. . . . I don't really have to work anymore, but I love the business, so I still see my regular clients."
Likewise for the customers, there's no reason their freedom should not include the right to purchase the companionship and affection they may want but, for whatever reason, don't find in other aspects of their lives.
For example, one disabled man told researchers he was lonely and visited prostitutes because "I'm ugly, no women will go out with me. . . . It's because of my disability. So prostitutes are a sexual outlet for me." Another man reported that he did the same for a number of years due to being "anorexic and very reclusive. There was no chance of forming a relationship." A physically unattractive man added, "I pay for sex because that is the only way I can get sex."
Another person said his experiences with prostitutes and other sex workers helped him overcome an extreme aversion to physical intimacy, which had resulted from years of physical and emotional abuse while growing up. He explained: "I very likely would have died a virgin if I hadn't somehow gotten comfortable with physical intimacy, and sex workers enabled me to do that. At least for me, it's been a healing experience."
Dr. John Money, a leading sexologist and a professor at Johns Hopkins University, similarly notes that sex workers, with proper training, can assist clients in overcoming "erotic phobia" and various other sexual dysfunctions. He says that for the clients, "the relationship with a paid professional may be the equivalent of therapy."
Can anyone, other than the ignorant or cruel, argue that sex workers should not be permitted to help such persons?
Legalization puts law-enforcement resources to better uses
Numerous legal commentators point out that using law enforcement resources against prostitution reduces substantially the resources available to fight serious crimes committed against persons or property. This nation desperately needs more efforts applied to solving those crimes, because arrests are being made in connection with only about 20% of them.
And according to the Multinational Monitor, massive amounts of white-collar crime are not being prosecuted. The magazine also says the damage inflicted on society by corporate crime and violence far exceeds the harm caused by all the street crime combined. The victims of the Enron and WorldCom scandals - many of whom lost their life savings - would probably support that claim.
As Ralph Nader stated in 2000: "Law enforcement, which is supposed to protect the incomes of consumers from corporate crime, fraud and abuse is a farce, devoid of resources and the will to apply necessary law and order. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being looted from consumers yearly."
Some researchers say a reason for the inordinate amount of police attention to prostitution is that certain officers prefer duties enabling them to be with attractive women in hotel rooms or massage parlors. The duties are more pleasant, far less dangerous, and less complex than assignments requiring them to be among violent criminals who may be carrying weapons.
For instance, in 1999 at least one of the vice-squad officers in Columbus, Ohio, was regularly having sexual intercourse with prostitutes before arresting them.
After receiving negative publicity about that practice, the police division issued new guidelines limiting officers to getting completely naked with prostitutes; touching their thigh, genitals, buttock, pubic region, breast, or other regions to the extent needed "to obtain the necessary elements of the offense"; being masturbated briefly; and "momentarily" having sexual intercourse if it's "in spite of all reasonable efforts of the officer to stop." (In practice, though, the officers apparently find it necessary to use those tactics only in arresting female - not male - prostitutes.)
Because of these "requirements of their assignments," the policy directs that officers receive periodic training on sexually transmitted diseases.Despite the revised guidelines, in 2003 the Columbus Dispatch quoted one court clerk as describing the officers' arrest reports as sometimes being so steamy she "should have a cigarette after reading it." The head of the vice squad acknowledged to the newspaper that "it appears officers are engaging in sexual contact."
His officers give new meaning to being "in hot pursuit." Unfortunately for the public, this nonsense goes on at the same time that Columbus has over 400 unsolved murders since 1990, including several prostitutes brutally murdered by a possible serial killer. When a frightened group of senior citizens and disabled persons asked in 2004 for more protection from violent crime, the Columbus police chief turned them down, saying, "Seventy-eight times a day we are unable to fill a cruiser because of lack of personnel."
As for white-collar crime, the police undoubtedly know that their jobs and careers are safer by making prostitution arrests than by investigating criminals who cause serious harm but either wield political power or have strong connections to those who do. And when the corruption involves others in the police force, the notorious "Blue Wall of Silence" leads all too many officers to ignore and protect the wrongdoing of badge-wearing criminals too.

If I was elected president of the United States I would legalize prostitution!

Why you may ask?

Well, EVERY employed person in this country sells either their brain or body for money period! I once worked for a furniture company delivering furniture and I was selling my back in exchange for 7.75 cents an hour, I felt like a slave literally. The company I worked for was extremely cheap, they never gave raises or any kind of benefits. Now, the company was profiting greatly and growing by leaps and bounds by exploiting their workers by paying slave wages for extremely hard work! I got hurt on the job many times because of all the awkward lifting that you do delivering funiture. My point is we all sell ourselves everytime we go to work and we risk getting hurt so why cant someone sell themselves for the purpose of providing pleasure? What would be so wrong with that? Prostitution is one of the oldest professions that exist!

Their is and will continue to be prostitution in this country wether it is legal or not, nobody will ever stop it! If it is legalized it gets taken off the streets and it would also get taxed and the tax money could be used to provide for education or maybe to reduce medical insurance premiums. Instead of the government raising our taxes to meet deficits, their would be a completely new industry that allready exist that would provide millions in tax dollars! I would much rather have police stopping murders from taking place and getting killers of the streets, then have them spending their time trying to stop prostitution.

I would change many things as you will read in my blog post everyday. There are many answers to the problems and challenges that face this country. Their is not one magical answer that will solve everything, I believe the changes I would make if I was elected president of the United Sates would start to lead this country in the right direction of growth, prosperity, freedom and peace. The pursuit of the american Dream would once again become a realization and not just a dream for the average person!

The United States is like a great big wheel and if you dont have all the parts the wheel wont roll. The parts must work independently from one another but also together, to keep the wheel on the right path.........I believe I could keep this country rolling and on the right path!!!

The United States must change its current policies in order to retain its thriving economy and keep our businesses healthy. Working americans is what drives our economy machine, making and spending or investing money. We can not keep pushing American companies to relocate to foreign soil! See we all operate on making a profit wether it be individuals, businesses or huge corporations, at the end of the day we all want to know that we made money and got ahead. Nobody will go to work everyday for free and neither will the corporate giants of america, so if they dont profit they close their plants here and move!

The question is how do we change our current policies to keep american companies located here, knowing today we do live in a world economy where we trade freely with many countries and many of these countries buy our goods and services as well?

I think one possible solution would be to start offering tax break incentives to corporations for keeping their doors open here and offering other incentives for employing american citizens. We need to help companies grow and thrive here in the United States so they will want to stay here!
We need to keep a welcoming business environment that will help companies prosper and keep people employed!

We still need at the same time to keep trade channels open and going because we do live in a world economy and other countries buy our goods and services too, this also helps the US prosper.

One of the other problems that needs immediate attention is corporations are leaving the US and going to places like China and basically using slave labor to produce goods and services that are then sold back to the United States. We need to create policies that will not endorse or enable these kinds of practices! One of the best solutions to this problem of course is keep American companies here by offering incentives and tax breaks and helping them thrive here at home.

For as long as I can remember, allegations and accusations about taxes and the rich and the poor have been a part of every election--well, except the current 2006 election which has not substantively addressed any issue other than Republicans prodding voters to "stay the course" and Democrats prodding voters to vote against Bush.But in a normal election, Democrats inevitably accuse Republicans of promoting tax cuts that benefit primarily the rich, and the slogan "The rich got richer while the poor got poorer" is something that no election can go without. The same arguments are made election after election, so when someone recently made that accusation on a message board, I decided to investigate whether it is really true or if it's just been repeated so much that it's accepted as truth with no supporting evidence.

Do Tax Cuts Benefit Primarily The Rich?In a word, yes. Now before anyone rushes to conclusions, it must fairly be pointed out that the reason the rich benefit most from tax cuts is because the rich are the ones that pay taxes. If I don't buy milk very often, I'm not going to see much benefit if there's a decrease in the price of milk. Likewise, if I don't pay much in taxes, I'm not going to see much benefit if there's a decrease in taxes. That doesn't mean a decrease in the price of milk or a tax cut is a bad thing, it simply means it will only effect those people that buy milk or pay taxes.IRS data shows that in 2004, the richest 50% of the taxpayers paid 96.7% of all income taxes. From 1986 to 2004, the share paid by the richest half increased from 93.5% to 96.7%, and the share paid by the richest 1% increased from 25.75% to 36.89%. At the same time, the amount paid by the poorer half decreased from 6.5% in 1986 to 3.3% in 2004. While the poor's contribution was cut in half, the richest Americans saw their contribution increase by nearly 50%.

When you get past the propaganda, for the last two decades the rich have been paying more and more while the poor have been paying less and less.To put it simply, of the $832 billion in personal income taxes collected in 2004, the richest half of the country paid $804 billion while the poorest half only paid $27.4 billion.Those that make the claim "the tax cuts help the rich" will claim that the reason why the rich paid so much more in taxes is because they made so much more money. There is truth to that, though the progressive nature of the tax code also insures that the rich pay more than they should, proportionally speaking. However, the reason for the rich paying so much more is irrelevant to this discussion: If the "rich" are paying 96.7% of the income taxes and the poor are only paying 3.3%, then it's simply common sense that most of any income tax cut will benefit those that are paying it. You can't reduce taxes on someone who isn't paying any.

Are the poor paying taxes? In 2005, a family of four was considered to be at the poverty level if they earned less than $19,350 . If you complete a 2005 1040 considering an income of $19,350 and four family members, you will find that the standard deduction for the couple is $10,000, and an additional $3200 deduction is given for each of the four family members for an additional $12,800. So, in all, the family earning $19,350 has $22,800 in income deductions which means they pay no federal tax. In fact, a family of four will not pay a single dollar in federal tax until the family earns at least $22,800. Since these people pay no taxes whatsoever, a tax cut will obviously not be of any direct benefit to them since they aren't paying taxes to start with. This doesn't make the tax cut a bad idea, but it stands to reason that it won't directly benefit anyone that isn't paying taxes any more than a price reduction in milk won't help anyone that isn't buying milk.

A tax cut cannot be given to someone who is not paying taxes. The poor do not pay taxes so, by definition, a tax cut won't help them. Saying that "a tax cut favors the rich" is either based on ignorance (given that you can only give a tax cut to someone that pays taxes, and that the "rich" are really the only ones that pay taxes in any substantial manner) or is disingenous (because the person knows this to be true, but makes the accusation anyway). The statement "a tax cut favors the rich" should be reworded "a tax cut favors those that pay taxes." It would be just as accurate but obviously without the class warfare undertones. Unfortunately, those that state "tax cuts favor the rich" are usually hoping for those class warefare undertones, so hoping for them to use the more accurate and less divisive words is probably utopian.Do the Rich get Richer and the Poor Poorer?First, we should agree that there's nothing wrong with the rich getting richer.

It would require a selfish, ignorant, and hateful person to want anyone to get poorer. I might not be rich, but I have no vindictive anger that desires that those who've had better fortune do poorly just because I've not done as well myself. That kind of trite material jealousy is best left in grade school.Second, we should agree that even if the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, the good fortune of the rich is only objectionable if it came at the expense of the poor. It is not honest or useful to complain about some people doing well simply because other people aren't doing as well unless it can be shown that one's success came at the expense of other people's failure.

So what do the numbers say? As usual, the numbers can pretty much say whatever you want them to say. If you check the U.S. Census Bureau , we can see that in 1967 the lowest fifth of wage earners earned 4.0% of the total national income and in 1998 they earned 3.6%--a decrease of 0.4% over 20 years. In the same time, the highest fifth of wage earners went from 17.5% to to 21.4%. Using these numbers, you might make the argument that the rich did indeed get richer while the poor got poorer.However, this is--in and of itself--a shallow argument. It's entirely possible that everyone got richer, but the rich got a larger portion of the new wealth. For example, perhaps the poor earned $100 and the rich earned $1000 while a few years later the poor earned $150 and the rich earned $2000. In this case, even though the poor person is earning 50% more, his share of total income will have dropped from 9.1% to 7.0%. The fact that their share of total income dropped doesn't mean they got poorer.In fact, that's exactly what appears to have happened. Referring to the chart on page 5 of the same link, we see that the top of the lowest fifth bracket went from $13,471 in 1967 to $16,116 in 1998, a growth of 19.6% in real terms. During the same time, the top fifth of wage earners went from a minimum of $53,170 in 1967 to $75,000 in 1998, a growth of 41.1%.

Similar increases can be observed in each of the income brackets.Everyone got richer, but the rich got richer faster.This is hardly surprising. Someone that is rich is going to have more extra money that they can invest which, in turn, creates more money. Money generates money and no-one disputes that being rich is, by definition, a financial advantage in a capitalistic society. Short of draconian wealth redistribution, this will always be the case. However, the macro-economic data from 1967 to 1998 does not support the assertion that the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.

The data supports the position that everyone got richer. While there may be year to year variations in a negative direction, the long-term trend is that all Americans are getting richer.ConclusionAs has been shown above, the claim that "tax cuts benefit the rich" is true inasmuch as the rich are the ones that pay taxes in the first place. The statement is true but could be more accurately (and less divisively) stated as "tax cuts benefit those who pay taxes." The assertion that the rich have gotten richer while the poor have gotten poorer is patently false and is simply not supported by the evidence.I hope readers will keep this in mind as they evaluate the current and future assertions made by politicians.

If I was elected president I would end the current income tax system the way it is now!
Why you may ask???

Well, I have been both poor and well off and I have experienced both ends of the spectrum when it comes to paying income taxes. I also have been employed by someone else as well as employed other people and have prepared taxes for many people over the years. The current tax system is extremely unfair !
The myth is the poor and middle class pay the majority of taxes in this country and let me tell you this is by no means true in any way shape or form it is an out right lie!!!! While reading this, lets be honest and see if you can relate to or remember any of these circumstances you may have been in or know of when it comes to paying taxes.
Who are the poor, lets start with the extreme? How many homeless people do you know who pay some if any income taxes? How about people who are solely on social security? What about people on welfare or some other form of government assistance, do they pay taxes? Now lets talk about anyone with children that makes less than 35,000 a year, most of the people who fall into this category qualify for what is called earned income credit and working family credit and usually get a huge tax refund at the end of the year. How can you consider them paying taxes when their refund is usually two to three times larger than the amount they paid in? Most working familes with children that fall in the income bracket between 35,000 and 60,000 a year also either receive a refund or pay very little at the end of the year when it is all said and done. I would also like to point out that most of these people in these circumstances are receivers of programs that are paid for by people who actually pay taxes!

Over seventy percent of the population falls into one of these categories, so who is paying all the taxes in this country? Well, single people who dont have children because they dont have as many tax breaks or credits, and people who make over 60,000 a year. The further people climb in income the more they pay in taxes. Think of it this way : less than four dollars out of every $100 paid in income taxes in the United States is paid by someone in the bottom 50% of wage earners, the Top 5% pay 53.25% of all income taxes (Down from 2000 figure: 56.47%). The top 10% pay 64.89% (Down from 2000 figure: 67.33%). The top 25% pay 82.9% (Down from 2000 figure: 84.01%). The top 50% pay 96.03% (Down from 2000 figure: 96.09%). The bottom 50%? They pay a paltry 3.97% of all income taxes. The top 1% is paying more than ten times the federal income taxes than the bottom 50%!

I worked in the furniture business for some time and you know what is amazing, is at tax refund time people on welfare and the working poor came in by the hoards and would buy thousands of dollars worth of brand new furniture because they got their huge refund checks from the government!
We never at tax time had an incline in people making 60,000 or more only a decline when tax season hits? I worked with this guy once who kept grumbling over and over "the poor pay all the taxes and the rich get all the breaks" so I asked him some simple questions, how much do you make ? 17,000 a year he said, I said okay how many exemptions durring the year do you claim? He said 5, I said how much do you get taken out every paycheck for taxes? He said nothing, I said how much of a refund did you get this year? He said about 56oo hundred dollars! So I asked him do you consider your self poor? He said yes, I said why didnt you pay any taxes then? He never answered and never grumbled again about who pays taxes.....
I think the tax burden in this country should not have to be on the shoulders of just a few just because they worked harder and learned to make more money"alot of these people created businesses and gave people jobs" why should they carry the majority of the burden when they created most of the jobs in this country? Everyone should share the tax burden in this country, if everyone paid at least a little it would make the whole system alot simpler and alot easier for everyone and would stimulate the economy! Do you know how many peole would get off their butts and try to better themselves if they werent waiting every year to collect their big refund check, to alot of these people its like winning the lottery every year! I was poor to I remember what it was like.............

"Who should I vote for?" There are many candidates for President in 2008, and it's hard to figure out who you should vote for. How will you vote this year, what factors will determine how you vote, age, sex, race, religion, looks? Or will you vote purely on their qualifications "are they qualified to serve as President of the United States" Will they run this country in the right direction?

As the race towards the White House heads into the February 5th, super duper Tuesday primaries, there are a lot of unanswered questions which linger. Will Americans vote for a female president? A black president? A Mormon president? Utilizing an experimental survey design called a "list experiment", the answers to these questions may be a little clearer. The most striking is that just under half (47%) of Americans would be upset or angry if Mitt Romney was serving as President, one-third (33%) of adults would be angry or upset if Barack Obama was serving as President and just under this (30%) if Hillary Clinton was serving as President.
Granted, a great deal of this may have to do with the individuals themselves, so how do the American people respond to the various characteristics? Well, just over one-quarter (27%) would be angry or upset if a Mormon was serving as President and almost the same number (25%) if a woman was serving as President. A very small number, just under one in ten Americans (9%), would be angry or upset if a Black person was serving as President.
These are the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of 2,302 U.S. adults surveyed online between January 15 and 22, 2008 by Harris Interactive®. This survey was conceived and developed by Harris Interactive and was not commissioned by any organization. Harris Interactive worked closely with the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at Brigham Young University in developing these questions and experiment and then in the analysis of the results.
When the pairings between the candidate and their personal characteristic are compared to each other, it seems that having a Mormon as President does not make people as angry or upset nearly as much as having Mitt Romney serving (27% versus 47%). The same situation is true regarding a Black person or Barack Obama serving as President as more say Obama serving would make them angry or upset compared to a Black person serving (9% versus 33%). Whether Hillary Clinton or a woman is serving does not seem to make much of a difference as the just slightly more people say having her specifically serve would make them angry or upset compared to the generic woman (25% versus 30%).
Race versus Gender
One of the main factors in the Democratic nomination fight these past few weeks has boiled down to a question of race. Who will White Democrats and Black Democrats vote for? When race is looked at, the numbers do not change substantially. Only one in ten (10%) of non-white adults are angry or upset at the notion of a Black person serving as President with 13 percent of White adults feeling the same way — an imperceptible change. However, when the idea of Barack Obama serving as president is examined, dramatic differences between Whites and non-Whites emerge. No non-white adult is angry or upset at the idea of Barack Obama serving as President compared to two in five (41%) of White voters.
While not as much in the forefront as race, this election has also seen the issue of gender emerge. Among men, gender is an issue. Just over two in five men (43%) say the idea of a woman serving as President makes them angry or upset while 48 percent of men are upset or angry about the prospect of Hillary Clinton serving as President. As might be expected, gender doesn’t appear to be as serious an issue among women. Only 12 percent of women say a woman serving as President would make them angry or upset while 21 percent of women say Hillary Clinton serving as President would make them angry or upset.
Looking at Party
When it comes to these issues, Republicans and Democrats, not surprisingly, have some major differences in how angry or upset these all make them. When it comes to a black person or woman serving as president, Democrats are fine with either, while Republicans are much more likely to say a woman would make them angry. Just one in ten (11%) of Republicans say a Black person serving as President would make them angry or upset while 16 percent of Democrats say the same. There is a much larger difference when it is a woman serving as President as one in five Democrats (20%) say that would make them upset or angry while two in five (41%) Republicans say that.
When the actual candidates themselves are examined, there is almost no difference for Democrats between Senators Clinton and Obama. One-quarter (25%) of Democrats say Hillary Clinton serving as President would make them angry or upset while almost the same number of Democrats (23%) say Barack Obama serving as President would make them angry or upset. Republicans are also of similar mind as just under half (48%) say Barack Obama serving as President would make them angry or upset while over half (56%) of Republicans say Hillary Clinton serving as President would make them angry.
On religion, Republicans are not angry or upset about a Baptist serving as President while one-quarter (25%) of Democrats are, although the difference is not statistically significant. When it comes to a Mormon serving as President, Republicans are slightly more likely than Democrats to be angry or upset (34% versus 27%). A larger and more significant difference is seen if Mitt Romney was serving as President – 41 percent of Democrats would be angry or upset while 51 percent of Republicans would be angry or upset. When it is Mike Huckabee serving as President, only one in ten Republicans (9%) would be angry or upset while three in ten (30%) Democrats would feel the same way.

I personally dont like any of the candidates yet, none of them have proven to me yet that they are capable of taking this country in the right direction. Their are lots of issues that need to be changed before we a have a major economic and social collapse. I will talk more about these issues in depth in future post......

People vote for candidates for many of the wrong reasons, alot of time people dont vote on what they stand for or their qualifications..........I have heard people many times say things like..my dad votes for democrats so I vote for democrats, or I always vote for republicans it dosnt matter who is running. I find most people dont even know what their party stands for they just vote that way because they vote that way...........Its amazing that people wont take the time to educate themselves about who they are voting for!

Investments or social security which will you depend on for retirement?

If I was elected president of the United States I would end the current social security system. Everyone currently receiving social security would continue to get it. I would put the rest of the money in some kind of low risk mutual funds and then calculate what people have paid into social security and then divide the funds up accordingly. Every person eligible to receive these funds would then have to take a mandatory financial class sponsored by and paid for by the government on investing for their future. I would also make it mandatory for all schools to teach children about money and investing and the importance of it.

I dont understand why this is not already mandatory for all schools to educate people about money. Everyone is always saying education is the key to a successful future but the one thing they forget to teach children about, is money!!

Think about it, there are record numbers of people right now filing bankruptcy and having their homes foreclosed apon! Remember education is the key!

I personally would rather have my own choice of what I do with my money. Think about this, we put money into the social security system for say 45 years, basically borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars to the government in the hopes we will get a few dollars a month when we are ready to die. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that anyone who is educated about money who invests money from the time they are 18 years old would end up with over a few million dollars by the time they are ready to retire. We all know people who try to live off their social security check, I dont know about you but I dont want to try to live off 800 dollars a month when I am retired do you?
